Methodenentwicklungs-Kit für verbesserte
Analytik
Labore, die Analysemethoden zur Bestimmung von Mineral-
ölen in Kartons und Lebensmitteln etablieren oder überprüfen
wollen, unterstützt das BfR seit 2011 mit einem sogenannten
Mineralöl-Methodenentwicklungs-Kit. Es ist eine Art Informa-
tionspaket und enthält Analysenvorschriften, Untersuchungs-
ergebnisse einschließlich Messergebnissen sowie beispielhaf-
te Chromatogramme. Es wurde bereits 72-mal angefragt, unter
anderem von Laboren aus Australien, Südafrika, Kanada,
Amerika und Skandinavien. Neben der nationalen Lebens-
mittelüberwachung, den Referenzlaboratorien der EU-Mit-
gliedstaaten und dem Europäischen Referenzlabor für „Food
Contact Materials“ nutzen insbesondere private Laboratorien
und solche der betroffenen Industrie das Mineralöl-Methoden-
entwicklungs-Kit des BfR.
Mineralöl in Verpackungen der
Systemgastronomie
Im Jahr 2012 wurde das vom BfR begleitete Projekt „Ausmaß
der Migration unerwünschter Stoffe aus Verpackungsmateria-
lien aus Altpapier in Lebensmittel“ des Bundesministeriums
für Ernährung, Landwirtschaft und Verbraucherschutz ab-
geschlossen. Während der Übergang von Mineralöl aus Ver-
packungen über die Gasphase auf trockene Lebensmittel
bereits bekannt ist, wurden in dem Projekt auch Schachteln
aus Wellpappe untersucht, die zum Beispiel für Pizza verwen-
det werden. Sie werden üblicherweise bei Hauslieferdiensten
und im „Take Away“-Bereich genutzt und sind aus Recycling-
fasern hergestellt. Die Befunde der Untersuchung zeigen,
dass das in den Schachteln enthaltene Mineralöl durch direk-
ten Kontakt auf die darin verpackten Lebensmittel übergeht.
Methods development kit for improved analysis
The BfR has been supporting laboratories that intend to establish
or verify their analysis methods used to determine mineral oils in
board packaging and foods since 2012 with a so-called mineral oil
methods development kit. Therein an analysis procedure, different
test samples including measuring results and corresponding chro-
matograms are included. It has already been requested 72 times
from laboratories in Australia, South Africa, Canada, America and
Scandinavia among other places. In addition to national enforce-
ment laboratories, some of the reference laboratories of the EU
member states and the European Union Reference Laboratory for
Food Contact Materials, private laboratories in particular and those
of the affected industry take advantage of the BfR mineral oil meth-
ods development kit.
Mineral oil in system catering packagings
The project “Extent of the migration to foods of undesired substanc-
es from packaging materials made of waste paper”, which was ac-
companied by the BfR, was concluded by the Federal Ministry of
Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection in 2012. Whereas the
transfer of mineral oil from the packagings into dry foods via the gas
phase is already known, boxes made of corrugated board used
e. g. for pizza were also examined in the project. They are normally
used by home delivery services and take away businesses and are
made from recycled fibres. The findings of the project show that the
mineral oil contained in the boxes transfers into the foods packaged
therein through direct contact.
In this connection, the National reference laboratory for Food Con-
tact Materials examined cardboard samples from the system cater-
ing and snack sector. A cardboard package for French fries and a
transport box for sweets, as well as a corrugated cardboard pizza
box for on-the-spot consumption and one for the delivery service
contained alkylated hydrocarbons. Based on these initial findings,
the BfR is planning additional tests which take into account the
foreseeable migration scenarios in system catering, such as short
contact times (10–30 minutes), temperatures in the range from
70–100 °C and direct grease contacts.
