BgVV with a new look on the Internet
16/2001, 08.05.2001
Relaunched website offers more information, improved user prompting and a search function
Since the beginning of May, under the web address www.bgvv.de the Federal Institute for Health Protection of Consumers and Veterinary Medicine (BgVV) has presented itself with its new look and with even more information on the Internet. User prompting on the website is based on the work areas of BgVV and makes it easier for the visitor to find general information and original documents. Further aids are the search function using keywords and the navigation bar which gives the visitor who enters the network via a search engine an overview of where he is.
At present, the new BgVV website contains more than 400 HTML pages and an equal number of PDF files. It is constantly being supplemented. In future, BgVV intends to make more scientific opinions available to the general public via the World Wide Web.
General information is presented in HTML format, more extensive expert opinions on individual problem areas can be accessed and read as PDF files with the programme Acrobat Reader 4.0.
Users can undertake searches based on subjects and keywords. They have direct access to the freely accessible databases of BgVV on chemicals and animal welfare.
The Homepage provides comprehensive information and work material for interested consumers, the media but also for public authorities and scientists who wish to draw on the work of BgVV. The column "Events" provides information about scientific congresses and seminars. This is where the programmes, abstracts (if available) and other information material on individual events can be accessed.
Interested users can now obtain the current BgVV press releases electronically by registering their details in the mailing list (http://www.bgvv.de/presse/mailingliste/index.htm), faster than by fax or mail.
Since work is ongoing on the website, any suggestions and indications of technical errors are welcome at any time (Mail to webmaster@bgvv.de). Work is currently underway on an English language version of the BgVV website.
