Compatibility of career and family

An important goal of the BfR is the compatibility of career and family during the various phases of life. The BfR has been awarded the “audit berufundfamilie” certificate since 2009 as a family-friendly employer.

The offers the BfR makes to its employees within the scope of compatibility promotion include:

• Conveyance of information to employees on leave for family reasons

• Cooperation with a family service provider to help employees with their search for child care or the care of family members and
• Social consulting in personal and vocational matters.

Corporate health management

The goal of corporate health management at the BfR is to maintain and promote the health of the entire workforce. We offer company sports groups, for example, (including spinal exercises and tennis), health days, health-promoting courses (e.g. Pilates) and ergonomic workplaces. The BfR also promotes health-enhancing activities and encourages employees to participate in various running and other events. A joint step competition was organised in 2017.

Further training

The BfR places a lot of emphasis on the further training of employees within the scope of personnel development. The extensive range of further training offered by the federal government is available to employees, along with in-house training courses at the BfR and private training offers when special needs arise. Executive employees also benefit from individual coaching offers.

Dual Career Services

During the supra-regional or international recruitment of staff, scientists and higher level administrative employees can acquire "introduction vouchers" for their partners which allow them to introduce themselves at the various BfR departments. The partners of employees within the target group Dual Career Couples can also make use of the offers on the compatibility of career and family made by the Dual Career Network Berlin (DCNB) (345.9 KB) (Flyer).

Internationality

In our globalised world, it is important for consumer health protection institutions to be involved in international networks. The BfR is the national point of contact of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and a partner of the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) which cooperates with more than 40 national and international, state-owned and non-state-owned institutions.

Through fellowships for international scientists and the hiring of internationally acclaimed scientists among other things, the BfR offers an international working environment with employees from more than 20 nations. In addition to this, researchers at the BfR are regularly represented at national and international conferences to present the latest research.

With the company ticket, the BfR offers its employees discounts in the public transport system in Berlin and surrounding areas.
