Use of QSAR in chemical assessment
Extensive toxicological tests are required as part of the authorisation procedure for chemicals and other toxicologically relevant substances. In order to reduce the number of necessary animal experiments there is a need to develop methods that can predict or estimate the inherent toxic properties of chemical substances. One method is the Quantitative Structure Activity Relationship (QSAR), which predicts or estimates the toxic effect of chemical substances after repeated application on the basis of the mathematical modelling of structure-activity relationships.
Research areas
Development of an optimised read across system for the prediction and estimation of the toxic properties of chemical substances as the basis for their health assessment and the use of the information and data collected for the development and validation of predictive models.
