Co-operation

In the performance of its wide-ranging tasks and activities, the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) maintains close contacts with various governmental and non-governmental organisations.

In line with the tasks assigned to it by law, the BfR works together with the departments of the European Community, in particular the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), and with other scientific institutions on national and international level. The BfR cooperates closely with national, European and international organisations as well as, on a bilateral basis, with its sister authorities in other countries of the European Union within the framework of co-operation agreements. Parallel to the opening-up of the European markets for trade and investment, the process of scientific exchange on global level is playing an increasingly important role. This has also driven the ongoing increase in the number of co-operation agreements with authorities responsible for food, product and chemical safety in third countries.

Co-operation takes the form of institutional co-operation or joint research projects. The scientists at the BfR make an active contribution to the work of many bodies, but the institutional exchange of experts is also becoming increasingly important. BfR employees are officially assigned to a total of 524 bodies.
